Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Georgia Independence Day Festival to restore the American Revolution in Georgia to its proper place in our modern perspective.  It is our goal to educate beyond the textbook with live characters portraying our Nation's Founders, to revisit their hopes and aspirations, their trials and sufferings under the rule of a tyrannical king.  It is our goal to remember the lives lost in the cause of freedom and celebrate the birth of a free nation.  To bring children to a new understanding of liberty, to demonstrate the colonial lifestyle, and gain a better appreciation of our freedoms so taken for granted today.  It is our mission to bring this people to a remembrance of how and why this country was founded and to love those brave men and women and the nation they built.

A special thanks to Henry County Commissioner Elizabeth 'BJ' Mathis for her help in getting the ball rolling on the festival.  After a two year break I was looking for ways to get the festival restarted and BJ asked me to call Henry County Parks & Recreation Director Tim Coley.  Tim and his staff immediately embraced the idea and found funding for the 2005 festival.  Thanks to Tim and the Parks & Rec staff the festival was an overwhelming success!
